This is a rare, perhaps unique bottle: Rare Old Alp Whisky, distilled, blended and bottled by Settsu Brewery Co. Ltd. According to the history book Settsu never distilled whisky but yet we have this bottle. According to its back label this whisky was revised (re-bottled?) April 1, 1945 by Daicchi Sake Brewery Co. The history of Japanese Whisky began approximately 100 years ago. Settsu Shuzo – the most prominent Sake distillery in Japan was keen to build Japans first whisky distillery and in 1918 they sent Masataka Taketsuru (the third son born into a family of sake brewers) to Scotland to learn how to make Scotch Whisky. Masataka returned to Japan November 1921 with plans to start producing 'real' Japanese whisky. The post-war recession in Japan however changed plans and Taketsuru's plans where rejected after which he frustrated left Settsu Shuzo who would eventually become part of Takara Shuzo.
