Created by Cellarmaster André Giraud, launched in 1981, Rémy Martin XO is composed of a unique blend from up to 400 eaux-de-vie coming exclusively from the most sought-after vineyards of Cognac: Grande Champagne (85%) and Petite Champagne. Several years after its introduction, the name changed into Rémy Martin XO Special which itself was replaced by Rémy Martin XO Excellence in 2003. Rémy Martin XO Special contains Cognac aged 8-35 years, bottled in a round grooved decanter, sometimes referred to as the sun decanter.

This one was bottled in 2000 in honor of the Year of the Dragon.

Until the 1920's Rémy Martin played a modest role in the world of Cognac but this changed with the introduction of Rémy Martin VSOP in 1927. Cognac Rémy Martin contains only grapes from the two most appreaised terroirs: Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne.
