Otard Extra

Back in the 1960’s Otard Extra contained a 60-year old Fine Champagne. This bottle from the 1990’s does not carry any age statement or reveal the origin of its juice so we assume it’s still a Fine Champagne, aged between 35 and 50 years.

Description

In the 15th Century, Count Jean de Valois rebuilt the Chateau in Cognac from the existing ruins and made it the principal residence of the Valois family. François de Valois, the future King of France known as “François 1st”, was born in the Chateau in 1494.

Baron Jean-Baptiste Otard was born near Cognac in 1763. After a short exile in England, he returned to Cognac, and with the stock of eaux-de-vie that his family had built up since 1760.

Then he established his Cognac House in 1795. When he acquired the only Royal Chateau in Cognac it was mainly because he had understood the unique properties of this place for ageing his cognac.
