Jameson 2018 St. Patrick’s Day

Out of stock

Jameson Irish Whiskey has unveiled its seventh limited edition bottle ahead of the 2018 St. Patrick’s Day festivities. Jameson partnered with a group of artists for this 2018 design, including Irish illustrator Claudine O’Sullivan, British designer Alex Mellon and Irish photographer Leonn Ward.

The design is inspired by the Fianna – Irish mythological warriors known for valuing loyalty and bravery. O’Sullivan’s hand-drawn eagle represents the unity of three friends on a night out, whose silhouettes feature on the bottle. The silhouettes were taken from a photo shot against Dublin’s Ha’penny Bridge by Ward. The friends are surrounded by banners and symbols that represent Irish tribes, drawn by Mellon.

We fear this has been the last of the St Patricks Day Limited Edition bottles which first appeared in 2012.

The company was founded in 1780 when John Jameson established the Bow Street Distillery in Dublin. Jameson was Scottish, a lawyer from Alloa who had married Margaret Haig, a sister of the brothers who founded the main Haig firms, and related to the Steins, a Scottish distilling family with interests in Dublin. In 1780 the Bow Street Distillery was producing about 30,000 gallons annually. By the turn of the 19th century, it was the second largest producer in Ireland and one of the largest in the world, producing 1,000,000 gallons annually. Dublin at the time was the centre of world whiskey production. It was the second most popular spirit in the world after rum and internationally Jameson had by 1805 become the world’s number one whiskey.

In 1966 John Jameson merged with Cork Distillers and John Powers to form the Irish Distillers Group. The New Midleton Distillery built by Irish Distillers produces most of the Irish whiskey sold in Ireland. In 1988 the Jameson brand was acquired by the French drinks conglomerate Pernod Ricard when it bought Irish Distillers.

Originally one of the six main Dublin Whiskeys, Jameson is now distilled in Cork. The old Jameson Distillery now serves as a museum.
